Tetra Structure

The structure is a tetra (like a pyramid, but with three sides instead of four) supporting a triangular or hexagonal floor. There is space for three areas down below, and then a ladder will lead up to the final area, Enlightenment, which is on the platform above.

The model depicted here stands 8 meters (~24 feet) tall at its apex, and has a diameter at the base of about 14 meters (~42 feet).

This serves a couple of purposes:
  • It looks cool from a distance
  • "Enlightenment" is physically and symbolically above all the other areas
  • We can mount some really awesome looking lasers at the apex
  • We can throw a (smallish) party up there if we want
There will be black lights strapped to the truss, and the laser array up above. The laser array should look pretty awesome. We are going to get five or so of those really bright hand lasers and mount them on a rotating spindle, and then mount a bunch of mirrors running parallel to the ground (shown in the picture) from which the lasers will reflect. So the top of the thing should look like a mess of lasers firing off in every direction.
We are planning that the central structure will be made out of stage trussing. That's the stuff you see at parties and concerts holding up the stage, lights, DJ booth etc. We are still waiting on the vendors to find out about its load bearing ability, cost, etc.
The side fences are not as sturdy as they look in this picture. The plan is PVC piping with a partially opaque mesh or net type material stretched across it. This will keep people from being able to see too much of what is going on inside, but it will not catch the wind as much as something solid.
There is space on the platform for about a dozen people comfortably, more if we squeeze. It's approximately the size of the Orange dome from last year, so we could throw a small party up there some night if we so desired. Most of the time it will just have a CD player on repeat running and small speakers mounted in the corners.
